As the internet moves more and more towards displaying multimedia, embedding videos in your WordPress post is something that people want to do more and more. It’s always been fairly easy to embed a video into WordPress, but since version 2.9 (we’re now on version 3.0.1), it’s been made incredibly easy by a process called oEmbed.

Essentially, all you need to do is paste the URL of the video page on its own line with nothing else on it and if the video hosting site is on WordPress’ whitelist of video providers, the video will be embedded. As it stands, the list of whitelisted providers is as follows, which includes all the major players:

  • YouTube
  • Vimeo
  • DailyMotion
  • blip.tv
  • Flickr (both videos and images)
  • Viddler
  • Hulu
  • Qik
  • Revision3
  • Scribd
  • Photobucket
  • PollDaddy
  • Google Video
  • WordPress.tv (only VideoPress-type videos for the time being)
  • SmugMug (WordPress 3.0+)
  • FunnyOrDie.com (WordPress 3.0+)
  • If for some reason, you are trying to embed a video from a site not listed above, you have the option of locally adding a provider to your own whitelist by following WordPress’ instructions. This requires some PHP knowledge to implement.

And to show you how this works, I have posted the URL of the video tutorial in the line below. It’s as simple as that.

Haha. That is one of my favorite videos ever. On topic: Thanks for the list of whitelisted video sites. I have been trying to figure out why my video wasn't embedding from my own video site and I guess that is why. I'll have to look for a plugin now. Thanks again!

Maybe that was nice and great for those people who wants to make their blog site more attractive because sometimes, putting a video to your blog site can easily attract reader. It was also nice to have something new to see in your blog for some refreshment in our eyes and putting a video on it is one of the coolest thing you should do.
